Jackie Hicks
Cheerleading Coach
I am married and a mother of two wonderful children.  I got involved with cheerleading 8 years ago when my daughter started cheering and it has been an amazing time sharing this with her and all the children I have worked with over the years.  I was an Assistant Coach for the first 4 years with my daughter's school and then the Head Coach for the past 4 years.  It has been so wonderful teaching these girls and seeing them accomplish so much!  I am now coaching with Anthracite Heat All-Stars and looking forward to it!

Brianna Hannaway
Cheerleading Coach
I am a 24 year old graduate of Pottsville Area High School and have a dual-degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Penn State University.   I have cheered for a total of 16 years on a recreational competition squad, high school varsity squad, all star squad, and the Penn State Schuylkill Competition squad.  In the past 6 years I have had the amazing opportunity to help coach 2 different squads, and have even helped coach cheer camps through Penn State University!  It is an honor to be able to volunteer with the Anthracite Heat cheerleaders and help them expand their knowledge and comfort levels within the sport of cheerleading!

Coaching Styles

All coaches have years of experience with coaching cheerleading and/or tumbling, and they all have their strengths and unique coaching styles.  We do our best to utilize the strengths of each coach where it is needed most, so for that reason, your daughter will interact with all of the AHC coaches, not just the one in charge of her team.  Keep in mind that each coach has her own style, while we are here to teach and motivate, coaches are also RESPONSIBLE for making sure the girls are safe and minimize injuries.  As with all sports, injuries are sometimes expected.  All-star cheering requires jumping, stunting, dancing and gymnastics.  It is imperative the cheerleaders listen and follow the directions of the coaches, especially when stunting.  This is the most serious part of the sport and the coaches will handle it with discipline and no tolerance for playing around.  The coaches have the right to remove any cheerleader from practice who is not acting in a safe manner.  While we all want practice to be fun, it is also hard work and needs to be respected.  Competition cheering is hard work & hard practice, but a lot of fun once you are competing and showing off your hard work & dedication!!
